Be open your senses. Be embodied.

Photography can be about so much more than the final edited and polished image; and it doesn't have to involve expensive gear. Use photography as an easy and accessible way to scratch that creative itch, while also improving your mental and physical health. I find photography to be an effective and efficient way to develop and refine my sense of composition - a critical skill in any creative field. I've also found that it's another way into my meditation practice by inhabiting my body through paying close attention to my senses, while bringing more awareness to the world around me. As an added bonus - there are amazing physiological and phycological benefits to be gained by walking, being outside, and exploring with intention.

The world is filled with BEAUTY and STORIES. If you can slow down, be mindful, and engage your surroundings, interesting and beautiful compositions will begin to appear; and the stories embedded in the raw material of your surroundings will open up and let you in.

Compose your photos. Don't physically change or resist the conditions of your environment. Become entangled with it as it already is. Think about what is speaking to you. What are your senses pointing you to? Is it a mood? Is it color or texture? Is it the pattern of light and shadow? What is it about what you can sense that you find beautiful? Use your phone, or any camera that you already have to practice capturing those moments. You will find that this practice enriches your perception of life - and you will begin to find extraordinary beauty, appreciation, and even awe in every-day objects and routines. You will become more aware of the intangible qualities of the world around you.
